In this course on the practice of respiratory therapy in the state of Florida, you will learn some of the history of how respiratory therapy got its start and how it became a licensed health care profession in the United States and in Florida. This course also explores ethics in the practice of respiratory therapy, including performing medically proper services and issues related to kickbacks and/or the appearance of impropriety. This course also discusses the rules related to the regulation of respiratory therapy, with updates on continuing education requirements and rules regarding citizenship, licensure and renewals of licenses. Finally, this course goes over the circumstances when the Florida state licensing board for respiratory therapy may consider disciplinary action and what those actions could be.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Explain the history of respiratory therapy as a profession
Assess issues related to ethics in the practice of respiratory therapy
List the new requirements for continuing education requirements for respiratory therapists under Florida law
Identify the steps and fee structure for initial licensure and license renewal as a respiratory therapist
Define the rules affecting discipline and actions for respiratory therapists
